It's a Thieves' Market

It's not a buyers' or sellers' market in beautiful Bakersfield. The local ABC station reports on one group that is enjoying the current housing market.

The real estate market is heating up for thieves looking to steal from vacant homes and new developments. According to local realtors and home developers, thieves are walking away with valuable property, from doors to kitchen appliances. "Our agents are careful not to listed the property is vacant it doesn't help sale the property and it puts the seller at risk "My guess is they're driving around and staking out the vacant homes," said J.R. Lewis from Watson Realty. Lewis said houses aren't moving off the market as fast anymore, making it easier for thieves to identify which homes are vacant.

thieves have actually been known to steal entire homes.here though you just drive through the neighborhood after dark and loot the ones with for sale signs, some of these neighborhoods are so empty i'm sure you could back up a truck in broad daylight and just load up...not like there are a lot of curious neighbors around after all...and if one does come by...hey we're mooving in,upgrading the bathroom etc.no problem.wonder if they will end up bulldozing any of these developments like they did in texas in the 90's?

I've heard that whole streets of high-end, new homes in Lincoln are sitting vacant.

I had a friend that lived on U st where, across the street there were several houses vacant. Somebody literally did just that, they pulled up a truck and stole all the doors, windows, fixtures etc. Nobody saw a thing. After that they wrapped the whole block in chain link fences.

Lincoln is about an hour and a half away from any hope of gainful employment. So yeah, move out there and bring your dollars so that the kids of the local buisness owners need to move away or live at home forever.

lincoln is in the lower foothills between sacto and auburn.i believe there is a casino nearby.also roseville is just down 80 and i think hewlett packard still has 3 or 4 jobs there...roseville took part in californias hightech renaissance a few years ago, prior to the bangalore boogie getting so popular.lincoln is hot,and the air is foul with pollution, the attractions used to be cheap homes and jobs,i think the cheap homes are coming back...the jobs, welll,no.

Yeah, Lockwood shut off comments right after getting in the last word on cost per square foot. I was criticizing him for not mentioning his favorite metric $/sq ft had just last month (Apr) gotten back over $240.

His new post is kinda interesting. Congratulating clients for closing at $60k under comps. No. His clients closed at EXACTLY the new comp. They are the comp. The other listings just lost $60k EACH.

Next up, the city getting complaints that street lighting isn't being installed/mantained thus causing rising crime and the city crying poormouth as tax arrears mount.

I have a friend who lives up in Lincoln. Her parents own a horse ranch and one of them is a vet.

I can't imagine living that far away and commuting, but then again my job will be moving to Roseville from downtown Sac and that move will more than double my commute from Elk Grove. Le sigh.
