Mosquito Bubble

The Stockton Record discovers the foreclosure-mosquito connection (hat tip Spacebar):

The rising number of foreclosures in San Joaquin County is giving rise to something else - more mosquitoes, which love to make larvae in "green" pool water at vacant homes.
...
That is a big issue because of the threat of the West Nile virus, which is spread by mosquitoes. One of the nine human cases of West Nile virus infection reported statewide this year was in San Joaquin County.
...
The county's mosquito abatement district cited an increase in the number of reports coming in about such unused pools...Last month, the district got 101 calls reporting dirty swimming pools from residents. By mid-July, the district had already received 94 calls regarding dirty pool water.
...
"Green" swimming pools definitely are a major concern statewide as the number of foreclosed homes increases, said Vicki Kramer, chief of the vector-born disease program of the California Department of Public Health.
...
Some counties have even taken advantage of law-enforcement helicopters to go into the sky to spot "green" pools, so county health districts can then treat the water for larvae, she said.
